Our Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations were a wonderful opportunity for our children to engage with the rich traditions of Chinese culture. The children had a great time making colourful lanterns and their favourite snowy mooncakes and were excited to invite their parents to join us for a special performance of Chinese and English songs. Dressed in festive outfits, they proudly displayed their lanterns and showcased their growing bilingual skills. Afterwards, everyone gathered to enjoy traditional snacks and listen to captivating festival stories.
Celebrating diversity is an important part of our play-based curriculum and events like this help us to foster curiosity, creativity, and personal development while teaching values such as respect, empathy, and global awareness. Through hands-on learning and cultural immersion, we help our children to build a deeper understanding of the world around them while also ensuring they have lots of fun as they learn.
Our Malvern Quality for October is ‘Independence’ and we will be exploring lots of ways to encourage our children to take responsibility for their belongings, to tidy up, and to try new things with confidence. Nurturing independence is vital for building children’s resilience and developing their social skills while also sparking curiosity and a love for learning. To support this theme with your child, here’s a fun song you can sing at home to make this learning fun!
At Forest Beach School, every day is an exciting adventure filled with unique discoveries that make learning fun and interactive. The Red Panda and Amur Leopard classes found hermit and horseshoe crabs on the beach and were amazed to learn that these species have existed since the time of the dinosaurs! They were also fascinated to discover that five of the world’s seven sea turtle species can be found in Hong Kong waters.
Trips to Forest Beach School provide meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that foster curiosity and instil a deep respect for nature. These outdoor adventures also help our children to develop social skills as they work together to explore the world around them.
Our K1 and K2 children have been enjoying their Financial Literacy classes in both English and Mandarin. Research suggests children’s money habits are set by the age of 7 and that we should teach them about finances as soon as they understand the concept of money being used to purchase items.
This programme links to both our Malvern DNA and our Five Centres of Excellence which reference Entrepreneurial Education and Entrepreneurial Spirit.
The ongoing development of our staff is crucial for providing the best care for our children, with our latest session focusing on first aid training led by the Red Cross, enabling staff to renew their qualifications. Additionally, Miss Emma Dean, our Forest Beach School Leader, holds a specialised outdoor paediatric first aid qualification, further enhancing our commitment to student safety.
This month, our much-loved Park Visits return for K1 and K2 students. Children will enjoy exploring and playing in the park with parachutes, balls, and PE equipment. These visits provide rich, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and help children build friendships, develop motor skills, and connect with the natural world.
At MCPS, we believe in giving back to the community and are proud to support Box of Hope once again this year. This initiative encourages our children to think about those in need and teaches the joy of giving. Together, we will donate essential and fun items as holiday gifts for children in need.
Parent–Teacher communication is vital in a successful educational journey for children. Our Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place in mid-October, offering an important opportunity to reflect on each child’s progress, set goals, and discuss how they are settling in. Conferences will be held both online and in-person, encouraging parents to involve their children in these meetings to foster ownership of their learning journey.
