After School Activities at Malvern College Pre-School Island West

We are pleased to inform that starting from November 2019, Malvern College Pre-School Island West will offer Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) for children (3-5 years) aimed at enhancing and extending their interests and skills in-particular areas.

As we thrive to provide holistic education for our pupils, we partner with leading service providers to offer high quality after school activity education, which we hope the parents will find beneficial for the growth and development of children.

Integrated STEAM Course

Instructor: Techbob Academy www.techbob.com
Duration: 60 minutes
Age: 3 years old or above

Benefits & Core Learning Areas:

  • Mechanics & Engineering
  • Students will form teams (each 2 students) to cooperate, build machines and engineering projects. Learning basic principles of mechanics and engineering.

  • Robotics
  • Students will form teams (each 2 students) to cooperate, build robotics projects. Developing logical thinking, fine motor and problem-solving skills during the process.

  • Coding
  • Introduction of coding by physical robot coding activities without watching computer screen. Students will learn basic principles of coding and develop logical thinking and ability of applying maths concepts during the process.

Music Explorations

This course aims at building a strong musical learning experience before they learn to play any musical instruments. Music Explorations aims to strengthen your child’s language, social, creativity and listening skills. The educational programme helps children to develop a deep love of music and the ability to express it. Music Explorations involves Singing, Movement, Music Theory, Listening and Aural Skills training. Instrumental learning is introduced by using age appropriate instruments such as piano, xylophone etc. As a result, children eventually develop an important understanding of music as well as laying a pathway to musical efficiency.

About the Instructors:

Ms. Heidi Luk started her violin playing at the age of 5 taught by her mother Iu Tan. In 2012 she was awarded as the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and was sponsored to study at the Royal College of Music; Master of Music major in Violin performance under the tutelage of Professor Radu Blidar. In addition, she has received several awards, including the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award, The King’s School Canterbury Music and Academic Scholar, The King’s School Canterbury Musician of the year etc. She has been performing around Europe and China since she was 5. During the times at King’s she was studied under Mr. Andrew Pollock and she has also performed with various accomplished musicians such as Andrew Mayor, Sir Colin Davis etc. Ms Luk took an active role as a violinist and over the years she and her students have been touring around Europe and China and gained a successful track record from the ABRSM exams.

Ms. Luk was appointed as the MCPS and MCHK music teacher; developing a new set of Music curriculum and the instrumental performance for the schools. Apart from her teaching, she has also participated in various training such as the Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly pedagogy for the early years.

Taekwondo Korea

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. There are many benefits for the pupil in learning Taekwondo. These include improving a child’s strength and balance. Taekwondo can also help improve coordination. Arm and leg muscles become stronger as a pupil practices strikes.

About the Instructors:

NRG Taekwondo Korea was set up by Master No Rae, a native Taekwondo Master from Korea who has achieved Taekwondo fifth Dan grade black belt and graduated with honours from the Korea Nazarene University. He has been training since the age of 9 and decided to spread the spirit of Taekwondo from the age of 12.
After teaching in various countries like Philippines, Indonesia, Ukraine, US he decided that Hong Kong is the place to be for him to continue his passion for Taekwondo. “Hong Kong parents are open-minded and encourage their children to learn sports aside from academic subjects.”

If you are interested in the above co-curricular activities, please contact school for the enrolment form and return it together with a cheque made payable to Malvern College Pre-School Limited to the Pre-School office by Friday 4 October. Please note that registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.
